As part of its strategic direction to support applied education and better align academic outcomes with the needs of the labor market, Toyota Iraq Company for Trading and Services of Vehicles, Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Technology in Baghdad.
The memorandum includes the launch of the Toyota Hybrid Vehicle Laboratory at the College of Mechanical Engineering, establishing a comprehensive knowledge partnership that brings together university education and industrial expertise within the vehicle sector. This initiative contributes to advancing students’ scientific capabilities and keeping pace with modern technologies.
The aforementioned memorandum aims to expand learning and training opportunities for students and graduates of the University of Technology, while reinforcing the applied education ecosystem through sustainable collaboration avenues that encourage knowledge exchange. It also supports the preparation of engineering talent with the theoretical foundation and practical skills required to engage effectively in today’s constantly evolving work environments.
The signing ceremony, held at the University’s Presidency Building, was attended by the President and Chief Executive Officer of Toyota Iraq, alongside His Excellency, the Japanese Ambassador, as well as several chief executive officers from Sumitomo Group companies in Japan. Their presence reflected the depth of this institutional partnership and its significance at both academic and industrial levels.
As part of the cooperation outcomes, Toyota Iraq provided the College of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Automotive Engineering, with a complete hybrid vehicle training model, along with a full set of inspection, maintenance, and repair equipment, in line with the technical standards recognized within the labor market. The company will also deliver specialized training programs for faculty members in the Department of Automotive Engineering, focusing on the latest developments in vehicle engineering and technologies, supporting the modernization of scientific content and advancing applied teaching capabilities.
The memorandum further includes offering field training opportunities for third-year students and outstanding recent graduates in the Department of Automotive Engineering, in addition to enabling faculty members to benefit from Toyota’s global online training platform. This step reflects Toyota Iraq’s commitment to investing in youth potential and fostering a learning environment built on international methodologies and standards, helping develop qualified professionals capable of keeping pace with rapid transformations in the vehicle sector and contributing efficiently to its future systems.
