Hiroshima, Japan – 6 August 2026

Toyota Iraq, represented by its President, Mr. Sardar Al-Bebany, participated in a program hosted by Hiroshima University in Japan on 5–6 August 2026, bringing together international academic institutions to discuss the role of education in promoting peace and sustainability. The visit included participation in the 6th University Presidents for Peace Conference, alongside the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the American University of Iraq – Baghdad (AUIB) and Hiroshima University, opening a new avenue for academic cooperation between Baghdad and Hiroshima.

Toyota Iraq’s participation reflected its partnership with AUIB and its commitment to supporting institutional relationships that create broader opportunities for knowledge and expertise exchange. The visit also provided an opportunity to further strengthen relations with Hiroshima University, Sardar Group, and Sumitomo Corporation, while engaging with university presidents and senior academic representatives from different countries and exploring future opportunities for institutional cooperation.

The signing of the MOU between the two universities was one of the key highlights of the visit. It followed a period of communication in which Toyota Iraq and Sardar Group, as partners of AUIB and with the support of Sumitomo Corporation, helped facilitate the initial engagement and strengthen communication between the two institutions. The MOU provides a foundation for exploring future opportunities in academic exchange, education, research, and broader institutional cooperation. It was signed at Hiroshima University’s Higashi-Senda Campus on 6 August, shortly before the conference began.

Toyota Iraq’s participation also included attending the 6th University Presidents for Peace Conference, which brought together presidents, senior leaders, and representatives from 17 universities across 11 countries and regions. Discussions focused on the role of universities, education, research, and international exchange in advancing peace, sustainability, and international understanding. The program also included visits to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Peace Memorial Museum, and Hiroshima University Hospital at the Kasumi Campus, as well as participation in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony, the University’s Memorial Ceremony for the Atomic Bomb Victims, and a screening of a film reflecting Hiroshima’s experience and message.

This participation demonstrates how Toyota Iraq’s international relationships and partnerships can extend beyond the scope of business, contributing to stronger institutional connections and creating new opportunities for knowledge and expertise exchange. From Hiroshima, these relationships also extend into areas connected to education and future generations, helping strengthen bridges between Iraqi and international institutions.
